The East Melbourne Neighbour Network (EMNN) began in 2017 when neighbours Shelley Faubel and Sue Henderson brought locals together over coffee, creating a space for connection, mutual support, and community life.
What started with a handful of residents has grown into a vibrant network of more than 200 active participants. In 2021, EMNN became a formally incorporated association, and in 2023, we took on the management of the Powlett Community Room — now the hub of our programs and gatherings.
Our activities range from monthly coffee catch-ups with guest speakers to over 20 interest groups and fitness classes, plus the East Melbourne Community Choir. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we supported each other through a buddy system and launched East Melbourne Connect, our lively online community space.
Collaboration sits at the heart of EMNN — we work with local organisations, host events, and provide opportunities for residents to come together, share experiences, and build lasting friendships.
